Spray Foam Insulation
Insulation Contractor is one of the most energy efficient and cost effective ways to insulate your home or commercial building. It can be sprayed in tight spaces such as attics, crawlspaces and rim joists in an existing home or pole barn, as well as walls and ceilings of new construction projects. It is a highly durable and water resistant product that can help to lower heating and cooling costs and keep your home comfortable year round.

There are two types of spray foam, closed-cell and open-cell. Closed-cell spray foam is generally more expensive, but it is physically stronger and does a better job of insulating a space. Both types of spray foam are more environmentally friendly than traditional batt insulation. They are also effective vapor barriers. In most mild climates, homes need between 2 and 3 inches of closed-cell spray foam in the walls and attics to meet current energy codes.
Both closed-cell and open-cell spray foam are made from polyurethane, but they have different ingredients and are manufactured differently. Closed-cell foam has an “A side” and a “B side.” The “A side” is typically composed of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate, while the “B side” contains blends of polyols, catalysts, blowing agents, flame retardant and surfactants.
When these ingredients are combined in the proper proportions, they create foam that is Class One fire rated and doesn’t retain water. It’s important to note that these chemicals off gas a lot of volatile organic compounds during both the spraying and curing process. For this reason, it’s recommended that homeowners vacate their homes during the spraying and curing period.
